How to hard close an app

What to do if an app isn't working as it should

If an app has stopped working, is freezing or has an unknown issue, it’s time to hard close the app and reopen it.

Sometimes, hard closing the app (NOT THE WHOLE PHONE) and rebooting it is all it takes.

Hard closing an app can reset app settings, and clear any cache issues. IOS and Android devices look a little different but hard closing apps on each device works the same way.

For iPhone, there are two options:

  1. On an iPhone X or later, from the Home screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause slightly in the middle of the screen. On an iPhone 8 or earlier, double-click the Home button to show your most recently used apps
  2. Swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close. Swipe up on the app's preview to close the app.

For Android Devices:

1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen, then swipe up on the app you would like to close.
